Editorial

Commissioned and edited 24 articles, fiction, and photography pieces as Guest Editor of the 97th issue of the magazine, focusing on stories of intergenerational transmission of culture and tradition.

Features include a photo essay of the Yoshida Ryu, a hotspot of student political activism in Kyoto since the uprisings of the 1960’s and now threatened by government and university opposition; an account of indigenous Ainu community building and identity in contemporary cities; feminist organizing today and an intergenerational divide after years of fierce stigmatization; as well as collaborations with Kyotographie international photography festival, Hong Kong International Literary Festival, and award winning writers Forrest Gander and Pico Iyer.

Arranged and coordinated the publishing of new Japanese translations of Pulitzer Prize winning poet Forrest Gander’s poetry on the dance duo Eiko & Koma. These works are featured in tandem with text on the process of translation in literature and between medium such as poetry and dance.
